Between Worlds🍃🤍

George had always known himself as a man tuned to invisible frequencies. He moved through the world with the bearing of one who listens for signs, who feels watched over by forces that speak in symbols rather than sentences. His spirituality was not learned; it arrived uninvited, braided with visions, with voices that sometimes sang and sometimes argued. The doctors called it schizophrenia. George called it a thin veil between worlds.

On an ordinary night that refused to remain ordinary, he walked into a bar and found Helena.

It was not the bar that held him, nor the music, nor the low congregation of strangers rehearsing

loneliness. It was her eyes. They did not simply look at him; they claimed him, named him, rendered him visible in a way that felt almost dangerous. Helena spoke and her voice carried the gravity of a siren’s call, not loud, not pleading, but certain. George, who had always felt godlike in his solitude, felt himself kneel without shame. In yielding to her, he discovered a new species of power, the kind that comes from choosing surrender.

They spoke first of nothing and then of everything. Words passed easily, as though they had been practicing them somewhere else for years. Later, by the poolside, under lights that trembled on the water like hesitant stars, George told her about another universe. In that place, he said, they were not strangers meeting by chance. They were parents. Lovers. Survivors of a passion so complete it had reshaped time. He spoke without begging for belief. He spoke as one reporting the weather. Helena listened.

She was art made flesh, brown skin warmed to the shade of caramel, carrying desire not as invitation but as atmosphere. Her words were precise, sharp enough to cut, yet softened by a tenderness that arrived after the wound, like milk poured over fire. She dressed like a dandy with nothing to prove, each choice deliberate, each color a quiet rebellion. Beneath her elegance lived a melancholy so still it resembled wisdom. She was sensual without performance, erotic without effort, and George felt his soul slip from his keeping into hers, not stolen, but received.

From that moment, Helena became the axis of his thought. His visions reorganized themselves around her name. Even his delusions seemed to bow, as though recognizing a higher truth. For the first time, the noise in his mind did not frighten him; it harmonized.

Tonight was New Year’s Eve. The world prepared to count backward, pretending that numbers could carry meaning. George stood alone with a revelation burning softly in his chest. The alternate universe he had spoken of was not metaphor, not fantasy, not illness masquerading as prophecy. It was real. It existed not as escape, but as promise. Proof, however, remained elusive. How does one convince another of a truth that announces itself only in feeling?

He realized then that proof was not his task.

Some truths do not ask to be proven. They ask to be lived into. Time, patience and tide, would do the rest. Helena did not need to believe him now. She only needed to stay. To listen again. To walk beside him long enough for coincidence to grow tired of pretending.

And somewhere between shared mornings, between arguments softened by laughter, between the quiet domestic rituals that bind two lives into one rhythm, the universe would align. Children would arrive not as evidence, but as continuation. Their laughter would echo faintly with something ancient, something remembered.

George smiled into the coming year. He no longer wondered if the other universe was real. He understood that it had already begun leaking into this one, gently, inevitably, through Helena.
